Jakarta (ANTARA) – Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has credited the smooth running of the 2022 Eid al-Fitr (mudik) return flight to the collaboration of all stakeholders.

“Collaboration is key. Coordination between actors and synergy between central government and regional governments have been effective in reducing traffic congestion during the exodus (period),” he noted during a working meeting with Committee V of the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Monday.

Sumadi noted that in general, the Eid 2022 reunion exodus went smoothly, orderly, under control and in accordance with strict COVID-19 health protocols.

He affirmed that the Ministry of Transport, as coordinator of the implementation of the exodus, continued to coordinate and collaborate with stakeholders, such as the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, public enterprises , National Police (Polri), Indonesian Army (TNI), Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), regional governments and media .

“Synergy cannot be taken lightly. It is a must. Therefore, we really appreciate it,” he stressed.

In addition to collaboration and coordination, he pointed out that the traffic management put in place during the exodus also helped to manage problems related to transport.

In the land transport sector, traffic engineering, such as misdirection, one-way policy and even-odd system, is carried out smoothly at the discretion of the police.

Additionally, the ministry continuously monitors the movement of people using sea, air and rail modes of transport during the Eid out-migration period.

He pointed out that the free transport program for the exodus had also helped to reduce the number of traffic accidents.

To this end, the ministry plans to increase funding for the free Eid exodus transport program in the coming years and boost people’s participation in the program.
