The Atlanta-based brewery looking to set up shop in Greenville’s West End has unveiled plans to create a new beer garden next to the Former cigar warehouse at 912 S. Main St.
New Kingdom Brewingwhich announced plans to open a site in Greenville last year, submitted initial plans to the City of Greenville Design Review Board (DRB) Urban Commission.
The plans still have to be approved or rejected by the board; this vote will take place at its next meeting on June 2. But the outline of the design includes a complete interior renovation of the old cigar warehouse, minor exterior renovations and, most notably, the creation of an outdoor café in the grassy field next to the warehouse.
The former cigar warehouse was previously occupied by High spirited hospitalitya popular event venue for weddings and corporate events, which has moved to Judson Mill development.
The grassy field next to the warehouse was previously used for events like the tacos and tequila, corporate events and wedding receptions.
Now, if the plans for New Realms are approved, the project beer garden will include a green space, outdoor stage, outdoor dining pavilion, outdoor entertaining area, fire pit, fire pit and two shipping containers for storage. The outdoor dining pavilion will also include an enclosed kitchen and washrooms.
The plans come after months of discussions between New Realm and local residents, who have raised concerns about noise, crowds and disruptions to the downtown atmosphere.
New Realm agreed to a few stipulations in response to the concerns, including:
- Moving a planned outdoor stage away from a nearby residential building and paved surfaces can amplify the sound.
- Added noise barriers around the beer garden.
- The inclusion of dedicated and reserved valet parking.
