International Steelworkers Congress will bring together 3,000 union and allied members


TORONTO, August 05, 2022–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Nearly 3,000 United Steelworkers (USW) members and allies from across Canada, the United States and the Caribbean will gather for the Steelworkers International Constitutional Convention next week in Las Vegas to charting the future of the North America’s largest industrial union.

More than 2,300 elected delegates, 600 international observers, leaders and employees and more than 100 international guests from unions from 22 countries will gather under the banner “Everybody’s Union” from August 8-11. This will be the USW’s first in-person constitutional convention since 2017.

“We are pleased to meet again in person and to have the opportunity for our local activists from across North America to come together to set our union’s agenda for the next three years,” said Marty Warren. , who will be attending the USW International convention for the first time in his capacity as National Director of Steelworkers for Canada.

The USW delegation represents 850,000 workers and retirees in nearly every economic sector, including metals, mining, rubber, paper and forestry, petroleum refining, chemicals, natural gas, healthcare, renewable energy, communications, transportation, higher education and the public sector.

The proceedings will begin at 10 a.m. on August 8 in the MGM Grand Marquee Ballroom and are scheduled to end at 5 p.m. on August 11. USW International President Thomas M. Conway will deliver a keynote address on the state of the union and the opportunities and challenges facing Steelworkers members and working families across North America.

Guest speakers are expected to include Federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh, Canadian Labor Congress President Bea Bruske, US Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh, US Trade Representative Katherine Tai, AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler and Mexican senator and labor leader Napoleón Gómez Urrutia.
