In Memoriam: Carol Dougherty, former USC Senior Associate Athletic Director

Carol Dougherty, who served 11 years as a USC Athletics administrator, died June 25, 2022, in Newport Beach, Calif., after battling advanced Alzheimer’s disease. She was 82 years old.

Dougherty served as a senior associate athletic director at USC from 2002 to 2011, serving as a senior administrator (SWA) for six years. During this time, she served as project director for the Galen Center, coordinating and overseeing the planning, design and construction of the state-of-the-art athletics, entertainment and community events venue that became home to USC basketball and volleyball programs in 2006. .

Dougherty joined USC Athletics in 2000 as associate athletic director. During her 11 years with the department, she oversaw the company’s sales and marketing operations in addition to supervising women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, women’s tennis, women’s cross country and athletics. men’s and women’s athletics. During her tenure as SWA, USC women’s teams won seven NCAA championships.

Dougherty began her career at USC in 1974 and served as Senior Associate Dean of the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences from 1980 until joining USC Athletics. Also active in many campus service organizations, she was involved in USC’s hosting of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games. After leaving athletics, Dougherty continued to serve at USC as a Special Assistant of Todd Dickey, working on various projects within the Office of the Senior Vice President for Administration. She retired from USC in April 2018.

Before USC, she was chief financial officer at Stanford Hospital from 1969 to 1974.

Her husband, Dennis, who died in 2013, served as USC’s senior vice president of finance and chief financial officer from 1990 to 2008.

Dougherty is survived by his sister Sally Henyey, his daughter Laura Blair, his grandchildren Erin and Logan Blair and his cat Callie.
