FTSE 100 rises as Shell wins after trading update

0804 GMT – The FTSE 100 rises 0.5% to 7136 points, led by Royal Dutch Shell after the energy giant said it would increase shareholder distributions. In a second quarter business update, Shell said it would increase total shareholder distributions to 20-30% of operating cash flow. Its shares are up 3.1%. Shell is also receiving a boost from a recovery in oil prices after the previous session’s sell-off amid uncertainty over OPEC’s next decision on crude production. The other energy actions BP and BHP are also higher. Mining stocks including Glencore, Rio Tinto and Anglo American are gaining as metal prices rise. ([email protected])
