Reba McEntire and Narvel Blackstock renovated their old mansion before getting married

In McEntire’s autobiography, Reba: My story, she wrote about her decision to buy the mansion with Blackstock when they were still relatively early in their romantic relationship. After their first two divorces, they began a “growth process” that led to them dating and eventually getting engaged.

According to her, they were talking about buying a house together in January 1989. She remembers asking her hairdresser to help her on the hunt, thinking that “the hairdressers knew everyone and everything that was going on”.

With a local stylist on the case, it only took about half an hour to find the mansion just outside of Nashville. McEntire and Blackstock went to see the place the same day and agreed to make it theirs.

Although the house was “impressive” at first glance, it needed some major renovations to suit the engaged couple’s combined taste. And she said they “argued throughout everything”, sometimes yelling at each other on public sidewalks. Of course, they made compromises and navigated all the ups and downs of the renovation.

After marrying in June 1989 and 26 years of marriage, McEntire and Blackstock separated in 2015.

“Divorce wasn’t my idea. I didn’t want it in any shape, form or fashion,” she told CMT after the marriage ended. “So it was really hard to make the adjustment when someone is not happy. I just want everyone to be happy in their lives, because our lives are too short to be miserable.

In September 2016, the former couple listed their dream home for $7.9 million. But it remained on the market until July 2017, when it sold for $5 million per celebrity net worth.
