Eugene Yu, CEO of Konnech, a Mighigan-based IT company, was arrested about a week and a half ago for allegedly stealing and storing the personal data of Los Angeles County election officials on servers in China.
This comes as Konnech, which provides IT services to various county election departments, was awarded a five-year contract with Los Angeles County worth approximately $2.9 million in 2020. The goal of this contract was to provide Los Angeles with an election agent. management system called PollChief. The system was designed by Konnech and was intended to help poll workers with different aspects of their job, including managing assignments, facilitating communications, and managing payroll.
Under the terms of the contract, Konnech was supposed to help maintain election officials’ data and keep it safe, accessible only to US citizens or US permanent residents.
