Opposition stakeholders, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, have approved the selection of the candidate for the party’s governorship in the north of the state ahead of the 2023 elections.

The development, according to THISDAY verifications, may not be unrelated to various consultations and agitations ahead of the next state election.

The approval comes from a broad meeting of the party leadership caucus led by former Senate Speaker Dr Bukola Saraki, held at his country house, GRA, Ilorin on Saturday.

Sources close to the meeting told our correspondent that the meeting brought together candidates for the post of governor of the PDP of the central senatorial district of Kwara and other party stakeholders in the three senatorial districts of the state.

Sources added that the meeting also involved 17 representatives each of the five local government council areas that make up the central senatorial in Kwara and two other senatorial districts in the state.

It was learned that stakeholders would have discussed at length the pros and cons of choosing one’s candidate for governor of the Kwara North Senate District in the upcoming elections.

It was further concluded that the party leadership would have taken the decision in order to appease the feelings of the residents of the senatorial north of Kwara who had claimed to have tasted the post of governor since 1991 when Senator Muhammed Shaaba Lafiagi from Lafiaji to Edu Local Government Council was elected state governor under the banner of the late Social Democratic Party (SDP).

After the meeting, it was found that the former attorney general and commissioner of justice, Mr. Saka Issau (SAN) was allegedly tasked by the party leadership to inform the whole house and received overwhelming approval of them. party members who had gathered at the house of Saraki, GRA, Ilorin to know the result.

Sources, however, said the former Senate speaker allegedly ordered party stakeholders in the North Kwara Senate district to return home and tidy up their homes and present a salable candidate for about 10 aspirants to the post of governor of the party of the zone. .
