Campaign posters of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, hang at the premises of the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) Convention.

Although the CBN governor has not declared an interest in running for president, different support groups have campaigned on his behalf.

On Friday, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) demanded the immediate resignation and investigation of the governor of the apex bank. in reaction to his appearance on APC campaign posters.

The PDP had argued that the appearance of the CBN governor, who is the banker of the federation and who by law should be non-partisan and apolitical, in the APC’s campaign materials is the “peak of President Muhammadu Buhari’s impunity led”. Administration of the APC”, which is negligent in maintaining the rule of law.

Mr. Emefiele’s action would also contravene the provision of Section 9 of the Central Bank of Nigeria (Establishment) Act which provides that “the Governor and Deputy Governors shall devote their full time to the service of the bank and during his term of office, must not exercise any full-time or part-time employment or vocation, paid or unpaid…”
